Deputy President William Ruto and his Kenya Kwanza partner Musalia Mudavadi are set to fly out of the country on Sunday, February 27, for a 10-day tour of the United States.
The DP is expected to hold discussions with high ranking officials in US including the US House Foreign Affairs sub-committee on Africa, Global Health and Human Rights representative Karen Bass.
The discussion will take place under the Carnegie Africa programme and is expected to revolve around politics as well as governance across Africa.
"We are honoured to host the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, William Ruto, for a discussion on the future of governance and economic development in Kenya, East Africa, and the African continent.
"We invite you to join us for this special conversation with Deputy President Ruto and distinguished guest, US Congress member Karen Bass," read the statement by Carnegie Africa programme.
The other engagements the DP is expected to hold include a meeting with Kenyans in diaspora at Mt Calvary Baptist, in Washington.
Ruto is also expected to fly to the United Kingdom after his tour in the United States of America in what has been touted as a political tour.
He has already secured the requisite travel documents and clearance for the much awaited trip months after his travel visa outside the country was blocked.
In August 2021, the DP was blocked from leaving the country and flying to Uganda via the Wilson Airport. He was stopped by the security team at Wilson Airport and asked for clearance from Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.
At the time, he was in the company of two lawmakers, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Kapseret counterpart Oscar Sudi, who were allowed to fly out without him.
In May 2019, there were reports that the DP's trip to the United States and Canada aimed at establishing a diaspora support base and boosting his presidential bid was scuttled.
He had also, at the time, planned to hold a meeting with Kenyans in Diaspora. The DP has, however, opened a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party office in the United States of America.
