Police officers based in Kahawa West, Nairobi have apprehended a house help accused of killing a two-year-old boy on Tuesday, March 1.

The reports were confirmed by Kasarani OCPD Peter Mwanzo who told Kenyans.co.ke that the house help had been on the run after escaping the previous night from the employer's house.

He added that after being questioned, the domestic worker defended herself claiming that the deceased fell while playing.

"What happened is that the deceased's mother had left for work. Upon returning, she found the child sleeping. The mother later discovered that her kid had bruised lips and had injuries on the back of the head."

"Once the mother confronted the house help for answers, she claimed that the child fell on the ground while playing. Upon further questioning, she was hesitant to answer. She escaped from the house that night," Mwanzo stated.

The Kasarani police boss intimated that the child's mother took the baby to Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital the following day for diagnosis. However, the child was pronounced dead while undergoing treatment as medics tried to save the baby.

"As soon as the mother filed the report at the station, a manhunt was launched," he noted.

The house help was arrested by police officers through the help of the agency that had recruited her.

Mwanzo confirmed that investigations are currently ongoing in order to unravel the circumstances that led to the demise of the two-year-old child.

"The incident happened in Kiamumbi which is in part of Kiambu but when the house help was arrested, she was taken to Kahawa west before being transferred back to Kiamumbi for further processing," he reiterated.

Reports about the death of the child caught the attention of social media users who criticised the house help for the heinous act while others pointed out that those attacking her ought to listen to her side of the story before judging the matter.

However, this is not an isolated case. Celebrated media personality Julie Gichuru has in the past talked about the loss of her third-born child who was in the care of her house help.

"My house help was feeding the child, he got choked, rushed to the hospital, the doctors managed to resuscitate him, but he could not stand the amount of adrenaline injected in his body."

“When we lost our beloved third born we were devastated. Destroyed. Totally broken. But we did not let go of our love for God. In spite of our devastation and grief, we kept our faith," she once narrated about her painful experience.
