KCPE Candidates Killed in Road Crash

An accident along the Njoro - Mau Narok Road has claimed the lives of candidates who had just finished their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams two weeks ago.

Njoro Sub County Police Commander, Isaac Odumbe, confirmed the Friday, March 25 accident, stating that the two died on the spot.

One other person, who was in the vehicle with the minors, also died on the spot while a pedestrian was also killed in the accident.

Odumbe stated that the accident happened at around 10pm after one of the front tyres of the car the minors were travelling in, burst.

"The car had five passengers including three boys whose ages we are yet to confirm," the police boss stated.

The victims were travelling back home from an initiation ceremony at Kahiriga Kikuyu Shrine. Police stated that the initiates graduated after staying in the shrine for 12 days.

Odumbe stated the car burst its front tyre and rolled several times. According to the police boss, one of the two survivors is in critical condition and receiving treatment at the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital in Nakuru.

The initiates had spent the day celebrating their pass-out ceremony in readiness for further festivities at their homes.

The bodies were moved to Egerton University Mortuary while the damaged vehicle was towed to Njoro Police Station.

Elsewhere, a bus belonging to Ena Sacco was on Saturday, March 26 involved in an accident along the Nyamira - Ikonge Road. Witnesses reported that the bus, which was travelling from Kendu Bay to Nairobi, crashed at Nyamotaro area.

Passengers, who sustained minor injuries, were taken to the Ekerenyo Hospital while those who had serious injuries were referred to Nyamira County and Referral Hospital.

Police rushed to the crash site to control the crowd gathering around. First responders took the injured persons to hospitals after administering first aid.
