Update: Karima MCA Reuben Wahome Kabera passed away while undergoing treatment at Mt Kenya Hospital on Sunday night, May 29.

In a statement issued by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, the fallen leader was eulogised as a jovial and outgoing person who carried the needs and aspirations of the Karima people at his heart.

Kabera was elected in 2017 under the Jubilee party ticket. He participated in the UDA nominations with the hope of defending his seat but lost to Francis Gathungwa.

Rabai Member of Parliament William Kamoti on Sunday night, May 29, died in a road accident on the Mombasa-Malindi highway.

In a statement issued by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, the MP passed away shortly after presenting his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kamoti had been cleared to defend his seat on an ODM ticket. Local authorities intimated to the media that Kamoti's driver sustained injuries and was rushed to Kilifi County Hospital.

According to the Kilifi County OCPD Jonathan Koech, Kamoti was returning home shortly after IEBC clearance.

The Kilifi county police boss added that Kamoti's car rolled into a ditch after swerving in order to avoid hitting an oncoming truck.

Kilifi Governor Amason Jeffah Kingi, who mourned the MP, described him as an admirable leader who would be remembered for his style of leadership.

"Hon. Kamoti will be remembered for his non-confrontational leadership style which saw him earn admiration from many people beyond his constituency and also enabled him to achieve a lot for the people of Rabai Constituency.

"Indeed as a county, we have lost a devoted and hardworking leader," Kingi stated.

Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire noted that Kamoti was in constant communication with the ODM team as he presented his documents.

“The death has hit us hard. Kamoti was one of the most aggressive ODM leaders in Kilifi and it is a huge loss,” he noted.

Kamoti was first elected to represent Rabai constituency in 2013, which had been created under the new constitution.
