The General Service Unit (GSU) officers took it upon themselves to bury their colleague who was killed in Turkana after his family and relatives reportedly abandoned him.
In the hilly area of Nkinyang'a Igembe Central Meru county, the GSU officers struggled to carry the coffin under the hot sun while the preacher led the troop to the burial spot.
They also dug his grave and lowered him inside in quite a hasty burial.
Kenyans online raised questions over the glaring absence of his family and neighbours during the burial.
To that effect, reports surfaced alleging that the deceased cop never returned home after he was recruited to the service in 2006.
Other unsubstantiated reports claimed that he refused to help his family or visit his rural home.
On contrary, it was also alleged that he was an orphan who was mistreated by his stepmom before he joined the service.
After his parents reportedly passed away, his stepmom resorted to turning his life into a nightmare.
Furthermore, the stepmom reportedly refused to bury him as she demanded to be compensated first. His neighbours had also allegedly demanded to be paid to participate in the burial.
The deceased was among 11 casualties killed after bandits raided a village in Turkana East in late September 2022. The officers were ambushed while pursuing bandits who had raided a village and stolen livestock.
President William Ruto and the Cabinet ordered an inquest into their demise. His deputy, Rigathi Gachagua also summoned North Eastern and Rift Valley governors to discuss the rampant insecurity witnessed in their regions.
