As former President Uhuru Kenyatta continues to tour the continent, mediating peace talks and uniting rivals, his coalition, Azimio La Umoja, is on the brink of collapse.

On Friday, November 11, lawyer Ambrose Weda, questioned Uhuru's silence amid the storm, arguing that the Kenyan peace envoy had already dumped Azimio.

He argued that Kenyatta will no longer chair Azimio parliamentary group meetings as he was held up with his international role, a position offered by his successor, William Ruto.

Weda based his argument on Jubilee legislators threatening to walk out of the coalition, citing deceit and brinkmanship and biased allocation of committee members within the coalition.

"I know that former President Uhuru is out of Azimio. I know he's out, as he's now a peace envoy.

"He will not chair this meeting, he's out.., he's a businessman, he knows where power is, and he will not confront Ruto. He will quietly leave," Weda, a panellist on KTN News, stated in a morning show hosted by Debarl Inea.

The political analyst urged Azimio to hatch new strategies devoid of Uhuru's influence and input.

"Azimio people should leave Kenyatta alone and sort their divorce peacefully,” he added.

Nandi Senator Cherargei recently asked the former president to resign as Azimio chairman to optimise his focus on his new role.

H.E Uhuru Kenyatta the special Peace Envoy Ambassador, has reported to duty with zeal and passion. I hope he has written a resignation letter from the Chairmanship of Azimio-OKA Council," Cherargei, a vocal critic of Uhuru and Azimio party leader, Raila Odinga, stated in October 2022.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 10, Jubilee MPs led by Eldas MP, Adan Keynan, and Isiolo senator, Fatuma Dullo, accused ODM of what they termed "political conmanship and deceit in grabbing Parliamentary Service Commission posts.

“We, the leadership of the Jubilee Party in Parliament are saddened by this show of impunity,” nominated MP Sabina Chege said in a joint statement by the legislators.

“We will convene an urgent meeting with our Parliamentary Group to discuss our relationship with our coalition partners,” Sabina added, signalling a looming fallout in the opposition coalition.

MPs who attended the press conference at Parliament Buildings included Senator Abdul Haji (Garissa), Sarah Korere (Laikipia North MP), Ruweida Mohamed (Lamu West), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Aden Daud and Amina Siyad.

The protest came a day after Azimio's leadership in the Senate engineered the removal of senator Fatuma Dullo’s name, a member of the Jubilee Party, from the list of the Parliamentary Service Commission.
