This is Why Makini School Was Chosen to Entertain President Obama

Makini school choir and a second one from Samburu county will get the chance to entertain US president Barack Obama and other dignitaries at State House Nairobi.

The two schools were reportedly chosen by the Ministry of Education to make the performance.

Confirming the news to the Nation, Catherine Njuguna the headmistress of Makini State House School said the opportunity was an honour to them.

Ms Njuguna noted that the choir has scooped the top position in the music festivals for set pieces three years in a row, which is in fact the reason why the school was chosen to perform at State House.

The choir’s relationship with the United States dates back to three years, having travelled there in 2012 to perform in the Fort Worden Children's Choir Festival.

The group was invited to the festival by US music directors who had seen them perform at the Children’s Festival in Turkey in 2011 where the school was representing Kenya.

The choir will sing a piece titled ‘Karibu Kenya’ (Welcome to Kenya), which was composed by their choir master Mr David Isindu with the help of the students, who suggested words and phrases to be added.
