KBC, MPs Accused of Misusing Mzee Ojwang

Nairobi senator Mike Sonko yesterday lashed out at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and some Members of Parliament for what he said was abandoning legendary comedian Mzee Ojwang.

Speaking at Nyayo stadium during Mzee Ojwang’s funeral service, Mike Sonko expressed his disappointment with some of KBC workers, noting that they have slept on their job.

“There are some KBC workers who have slept on their jobs. We will not allow them to make people who worked tirelessly to suffer,” Sonko said.

The National Broadcaster has been on receiving end over accusations that, it unfairly treated the Vitimbi program actors.

The Nairobi senator also accused a section of MPs for using Mzee Ojwang then abandoning him.

Sonko said, “Mzee Ojwang helped some politicians during election campaigns; he even went ahead to use his influence to ask for votes on their behalf, and today am not seeing even a single MP whom the veteran actor propelled to power. We should stop misusing people.”

The flamboyant senator, however, challenged the artists, to strive and safeguard their welfare instead of always waiting for external assistance.

He urged them to come up with their committees, to address issues affecting them.

Benson Wanjau alias Mzee Ojwang was laid to rest at the Langata cemetery.
