An 82-year old man will remain in police custody until September, for allegedly raping a minor.
Adan Bayo Abdi, an Ethopian national, was Wednesday arraigned in court for defiling a 9-year-old girl.
The case was, however, postponed due to lack of an interpreter.
Mandera Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Areri ordered that the case be mentioned on September 9 and be heard on September 16.
Bayo is also accused of being in the country illegally after he was arrested without a valid passport or permit.
According to a Nation report, the man claims that he came into the village two days ago to visit his son and is unable to commit the act.
This comes amid concerns that defilers in Mandera are not handled by courts.
Residents claim instead that the matter is settled by the offender giving a fine of several goats.
