John Chweya

John Chweya is an environmental champion and an advocate for waste picking.

He currently serves as the president of the Kenya National Waste Pickers Association, which has over 30,000 members across the nation.

Chweya has been playing a crucial role in sensitising people on environmental conservation, having grown in the informal areas where most dumpsites are located.

Carlos Mureithi

 

Carlos Mureithi is a journalist working as the Africa Climate & Environment Correspondent for The Associated Press (AP).

Based in Nairobi, Mureithi is a widely experienced journalist who has worked with mainstream media companies both locally and internationally throughout his career.

Before joining AP, Mureithi worked as the Africa correspondent for The Christian Science Monitor.

Raphael Munavu

Professor Munavu is an experienced professional with a career spanning 35 years in the education sector and public service.

He is, however, most popular for having been appointed the Chairperson of the Presidential Working Party of Education Reforms by President William Ruto in September 2022.

The task force submitted its recommendations to the Head of State in August 2023 putting Prof. Munavu on the cusp of changing the course of the Kenyan education system forever.

Dr. Karanja is an accomplished professional boasting over 20 years of experience in the fields of academia, technological innovation, Research and development (R&D), and development entrepreneurship in global health across East Africa.

Dr. Karanja started his career as a volunteer at the  International Centre for Insect and Ecology (ICIPE).

Edwin Sifuna

Edwin Sifuna is a Nairobi-based lawyer who is the current Nairobi Senator. 

The firebrand politician, who is also the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, was very vocal against some of the policies implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration. 

This earned him praise from a large section of Kenyans who consistently lauded his eloquence when articulating matters during media interviews. 

Hussein Mohamed

Hussein Mohammed, the State House Spokesperson, became a household name during a stellar career as a Senior News Anchor at Citizen TV Kenya.

Heading to the 2022 general election, Hussein Mohammed was appointed as the head of communications for then-Deputy President William Ruto's presidential campaign.

As the State House Spokesperson, Mohamed has been involved in representing President William Ruto and the government on various matters. For example, he recently spoke about Kenya's big win at COP28, highlighting the country's achievements at the conference.

Hudson Alakonya

Hudson is an oncologist and an accomplished medical practitioner with a  PhD in oncology research from the University of Oxford.

Dr. Alakonya is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in New York.

His research mainly focuses on developing Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) and positron emission tomography (PET) molecular imaging agents for early detection and prognosis evaluation of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Kelvin Kiptum

2023 was quite the year for Kelvin Kiptum.

The 23-year-old marathoner became the first man to break the 2:01:09 record held by Eliud Kipchoge after winning the Chicago Marathon in October after setting a time of 2:00:35.

Kiptum’s achievement meant that he eclipsed Kipchoge as the world’s best marathoner.

However, Kiptum is not done and has trained his efforts to hoist Kenya’s flag even higher in future competitions.

Khaligraph Jones

Brian Ouko Omollo alias Khaligraph Jones is an award winning Kenyan rapper and songwriter. 

He is best known for his hit songs “Mazishi” and “Yego” and has two albums to his name; Testimony 1990 and Invisible Currency.

In 2023, Khaligraph was one of the 2 artists chosen to represent Kenya in Coke Studio Africa alongside RnB singer Nikita Kering’. Together, they recorded a mashup of Nikita’s hit song "Ex."

John Allan Namu

If you ask any Kenyan to name the top 5 investigative journalists of all time, chances are John Allan Namu will likely feature in the list.

Namu, the co-founder of Africa Uncensored - a media house that specialises in investigative journalism and impactful stories, recently celebrated the 8th anniversary of the stable he co-founded alongside his close friends.

Namu built his name at Standard Group where he, alongside Mohammed Ali, now Nyali MP, and Dennis Onsarigo did some impactful investigative stories.
