Anne Waiguru the Chairperson of the Council of Governors, has hit out at the Deputy President indirectly accusing him of curtailing political ambition.
In a statement shared on her platforms on Monday evening, the Governor requested Gachagua to avoid personalising the DPs office and instead allow youth to aspire to hold such offices.
Further, she cautioned the Deputy President that Kenya’s democracy ensures leaders hold offices as trustees and not as owners.
“While we respect the office of the Deputy President, and indeed any other office of leadership, a progressive democracy does not allow us as occupiers of public leadership offices to personalise them to the extent that it becomes taboo for anyone else to nurture and express ambition to occupy them,” said Waiguru in direct reference to Rigathi Gachagua.
In her statement, she further said that the ambitions of many aspiring politicians in Kenya are frustrated by senior leaders instead of naturing them
“Everyone has a right to dream and pursue their dreams like those in current leadership dreamt and their dreams actualised by the support of millions of youth and women. They (those harboring political ambition) too, deserve support, not hostility,” Waiguru stated
Waiguru’s statement continues to expose the growing political rift among Mount Kenya politicians, especially those within the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
Her remarks follow claims from some members of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party that Rigathi Gachagua is being sidelined politically by President Ruto.
State House through its spokesperson Hussein Mohamed refuted the claims of there being a rift between the President and his Deputy.
Additionally, there have been suggestions that Kiharu Member of Parliament, Ndindi Nyoro is being secretly groomed to be William Ruto's running mate in 2027.
