Dennis Ombachi, a self-taught chef and former international rugby sevens player has been inducted into the TikTok Change Makers Program.
Ombachi was nominated alongside 50 other individuals globally as one of the purpose-driven content creators.
In its announcement, the short-form video hosting service named Ombachi as part of the program which seeks to support selected creators from around the world.
TikTok while formally launching the Ksh131 million program, stated that the initiative would benefit more than 30 global and local non-profit organisations supporting various important causes.
Each Changemaker would be honoured with a Ksh3.2 million ($25,000) direct donation to support their respective advocacies, thereby elevating the impact of their work.
It was during the launch of the program that TikTok recognised Ombachi as a purpose-driven creator who has made a significant impact and inspired his audience on TikTok and beyond.
“We are thrilled to announce our partnership with Dennis Ombachi and TikTok to amplify children's voices across Africa," stated Jennifer Kaberi, Chief Executive Officer of a News agency.
"This collaboration will ensure that the perspectives of African children on crucial issues such as Climate Change, Education, and Digital Wellbeing are heard loud and clear."
While advocating for change, Dennis has been an inspiration to many by regularly distributing meals to less privileged people across Nairobi.
The former rugby player who boasts a following of 2.3 million on TikTok reinvented himself as a social media star with a global fan base after an injury ended his sports career.
Following a diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2018, he turned to cooking to maintain his mental health.
During the pandemic, he focused on creating cooking content, keeping his videos short and snappy. In 2022, he received the TikTok Award for Best African Content Creator.
