The Chinese Embassy in Nairobi has partnered with celebrity internet chef Dennis Ombachi for a gig that will see the latter use his skills to help the mission achieve its objectives.
In a statement, Ombachi revealed that the partnership will focus on food diplomacy, emphasising cultural exchange, and collaborative initiatives to foster global understanding through shared gastronomic experiences.
“Meet Chinese Chef Lui Longfei who we shall be partnering together building up to the Chinese Food Extravaganza happening on the 2nd of December at the Panari Hotel,” the celebrity said in a statement.
The chef further expressed gratitude for being handed the opportunity to foster international relations between China and Kenya.
Following the announcement, many Kenyans congratulated Ombachi terming his recognition as a well-deserved fete.
Some humorously stated that they are looking forward to seeing the chef prepare some sumptuous Chinese dishes.
This is the second foreign deal, the self-taught chef has landed recently.
In November 2023, Ombachi, popularly known as the roaming chef revealed that the Italian Embassy in Kenya had facilitated a partnership with celebrity Michelin chef, Luca Mastromattei.
"It’s been a learning process through culinary diplomacy by the Italian embassy and here’s to more exciting things to come," Ombachi stated at the time.
Ombachi rose to fame between 2019 and 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic era as he went house to house offering culinary services and that is how he acquired the title 'roaming chef'.
Before becoming an internet chef, Ombachi was a professional rugby player who represented Kenya 7s at the highest level. He, however, hung up his boots in 2020 before proceeding to swap the rugby pitch for the pan.
Done.
