The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has released its latest country ranking for men's national teams.
In the ranking released on Thursday, June 20, Kenya was ranked at position 108, a drop of one point from the ranking released early in the year.
Kenya was ranked with cumulative points of 1195.45. Nonetheless, these were higher points than those recorded in April (1191.24 points).
Notable African countries that were ranked above Kenya Include Uganda (94), Zambia (90), Gabon (83), Ghana (64) and South Africa (59).
Conversely, Kenya was ranked above Congo (113), Rwanda (131) and Ethiopia (143).
Libya, Comoros, Togo, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Estonia, India, Malawi, Cyprus and the Central African Republic were also ranked below Kenya.
In general, the top five countries were Argentina, France, Belgium, Brazil and England in that order.
In the latest 12 rankings, Kenya has been ranked between 101 and 111.
Kenya's best ranking was in 2008 when FIFA positioned Kenya at 68. The lowest-ever ranking was in 2007 when the country was ranked at position 137.
FIFA ranking is determined by algorithms that factor the games that are played by a country, the strength of the opponents they face and the stages that they reach in various competitions.
"This new version developed by FIFA was named "SUM" as it relies on adding/subtracting points won or lost for a game to/from the previous point totals rather than averaging game points over a given time period as in the previous version of the World Ranking.
"The points which are added or subtracted are partially determined by the relative strength of the two opponents, including the logical expectation that teams higher in the ranking should fare better against teams lower in the ranking," FIFA explained.
