Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale on Saturday, June 29, alleged that there were present and former government officials who were hellbent on destabilising the country.
Speaking in Tana River County during a grassroots women empowerment program, Duale remarked that this was the reason peaceful protests organised by Gen Z had suddenly started turning chaotic.
Duale revealed that those leaders, whom some he had worked with now wanted to bring back the Mungiki sect to loot property as well as destroy key government infrastructure.
“I have to say that we appreciate our young people when they raise critical concerns on the affairs of the State,” he spoke of the Gen Z protests.
“But there are colleagues I know, I have worked with some of them. They were in the former government, some are in this government. If you think you can bring Mungiki, we will not allow it.”
While announcing that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) would support the National Police Service in providing security, Duale warned politicians against making utterances that could fan the chaos.
Addressing Gen Z, Duale asked the young demonstrators to be mindful of criminals infiltrating their cause.
He stated that the criminals were taking advantage of the organised protests to kill people, loot property as well as raze government buildings.
“National Police Service under their leadership with the support of KDF we will protect critical infrastructure of the three arms of government, of citizen's property and their lives and that is what the constitution demands of us,” he promised.
Duale observed that should the protests continue being characterised by violence, Kenya would quickly slide into an anarchy state.
He drew parallels with Sudan where a clamour for regime change ended up plunging the country into civil war.
As Cabinet Secretary for Defence bestowed the responsibility to protect the nation, CS Duale remarked that he would not allow a few leaders to bring back Mungiki to terrorise Kenyans.
“We will be very irresponsible if we allow our country to slide into chaos,” the CS remarked.
