Ragana Girls in Suna West Migori County was on Monday, July 15 closed indefinitely after a declaration by the Board of Management.

The school was closed after concerns were raised about the lack of clean water at the school. Students revealed that they used dirty water from a pond in the school.

Additionally, the students complained about the state of the dormitories. These concerns forced the board to announce that the situation was unconducive for learning.

The 400 students were sent home until the matter was resolved. This abrupt closure left the students in limbo as other students continued with the second term.

Before the announcement, some of the students were seen carrying placards calling for the principal's resignation. Some of the students had staged a protest outside the classrooms.

The school management was advised to resolve the matter as soon as possible to ensure the parents resumed learning in good time.

"If we just leave it as it is and the students come back, it will bring a lot of complications and nowadays you know who Gen Zs are, they are not ready to listen and we must know how to tame them and make them listen," one of the parents stated.

Following the announcement, the students were seen leaving the school with suitcases heading home.

Ragana Girls was closed a few hours after Kerugoya Boys High School in Kirinyaga County was also closed indefinitely after a dormitory fire.

The fire razed down the school on Saturday night disrupting students on evening preps. The cause of the fire was yet to be established.

Kirinyaga County Commissioner Hussein Alosow revealed that investigations were ongoing to determine the cause and ensure anyone involved is held accountable.

"Nobody was injured. Give us time to investigate, let us not speculate," the County Commissioner remarked.
