2 people died and 3 were injured on Tuesday morning after three vehicles including two trucks and a trailer got involved in an accident along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi.
The accident which occurred near the Ole Sereni area along the highway leading to Lang’ata resulted in one of the vehicles bursting into flames.
In the videos obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the trailer which was stalled in the middle of the road could be captured engulfed in flames as rescue operations intensified.
"A road traffic incident involving three vehicles has occurred along the Southern Bypass, on the way to Lang'ata from Ole Sereni, Nairobi County. Response teams are en route to the scene," the Kenya Red Cross stated.
The accident resulted in a huge traffic snarl-up along the highway as police officers called on motorists plying the road to use alternative routes.
Road users could be seen evacuating victims of the road crash from the wreckages even as the inferno spread through the vehicles involved in the tragedy.
Some of the victims were seen lying on the ground as they received first aid before they were rushed to the hospital.
At the time of publishing this article, the exact number of those involved in the accident had not yet been established despite police arrival at the scene of the accident.
In a similar incident on April 2, this year, a Subaru belonging to the Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali was destroyed after it burst into flames along the Embu-Meru Highway.
According to a police report, the car went up in flames after a head-on collision with a Toyota Hilux near the Gatunduri bridge.
In videos seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the vehicle was burning on the side of the road as motorists stared in awe. The other vehicle had also veered off the road with damages on the bonnet.
The Deputy Speaker is reportedly unhurt with members of the county wishing him a quick recovery. The Igembe East ward Member of County Assembly Murithi Mutiria joined Meru residents to wish Ali a quick recovery.
"Gracious Lord hear us and protect the Deputy Speaker. Father protect him with your precious blood," he remarked.
