It was noted that the detectives managed to contain the situation and conducted a search in the house where bags with dollars were found.

EACC added that a forensic analysis of the dollars established that the foreign currencies were fake.

Various items used to make fake money were also retrieved during the Thursday afternoon operation.

"During the operation, detectives recovered two briefcases full of US dollars, estimated to be in millions, and assorted chemicals (in powder and liquid form) suspected to be used for making fake notes. Samples of the notes tested at the EACC Integrated Financial Forensic Lab were fake.

"This evening, OCS EACC Police Station handed over the former MP, his wife, and various recovered items, including the fake notes, Ceska Pistol with an expired firearm permit, and assorted chemicals, to the DCI under whose jurisdiction the matter lies," read the statement in part.

EACC expounded that the MP's wife was a former employee of NHIF who assisted various medical facilities in defrauding the national insurer of close to Ksh199 million.

"Today’s operation targeted seven prime suspects in the NHIF scam, including the MP’s wife, a former NHIF Quality Assurance Officer, the Eastleigh NHIF Branch Manager,  and 5 Directors of a pharmacy which fraudulently obtained Ksh199 million from NHIF through fictitious claims facilitated by the NHIF officials," EACC added.

The antigraft agency added that there were more medical facilities that were under investigation adding that the law would soon catch up with those involved.
