Kenya Met Issues Weekend Rainfall Advisory for 5 Regions Including Nairobi and Mombasa

The Kenya Meteorological Department on Thursday cautioned Kenyans to brace for moderate to heavy rainfall from October 10 to October 14.

In its five-day weather forecast, the weather department noted that rainfall was expected in the Highlands East region, West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley and the Coast region.

According to Kenya Met, the Highland East counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi were projected to receive rainfall in moderate amounts. The above areas were expected to experience rainfall from noon through to the night hours.

Other counties forecasted to experience light rains include the coastal counties of Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu, and Kwale. At the coast, the rain was projected to start in the morning and spread to the afternoon.

Similarly, the counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, and Uasin Gishu were expected to experience rainfall in heavy amounts. In its advisory, the meteorological department revealed that the rains would be accompanied by thunderstorms.

The counties of Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia, and West Pokot were also predicted to experience a similar weather pattern.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country was expected to remain dry. According to Kenya Met, the counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo were projected to experience sunny conditions for the first two days of the forecast with rains expected for the remaining days.

Other counties that were listed to experience a similar weather pattern include counties in the southeastern lowlands such as Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta.

Temperature Advisory 

The meteorological department in its weekend advisory also warned of very cold night temperatures categorically in the counties of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka, and Nairobi. 

According to the weather department, the night temperatures in the above counties were expected to drop to 7°C in the first three days of the forecast before rising to 8°C for the rest of the days.

Additionally, residents living in Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet were cautioned to brace for high daytime temperatures of up to 32°C. 

Other counties that were cautioned to prepare for hot days include Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Isiolo, Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale.
