The family of Wells Fargo Human Resource Manager Willis Ayieko has commended the National Police Service (NPS) for taking stern action against suspects linked to Ayieko's gruesome murder.
While addressing mourners during Ayieko's burial arrangements on November 2, Ayieko’s brother also hailed Siaya Governor James Orengo and other senior government officials for pushing the security agencies into action.
According to him, Governor Orengo and Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi’s relentless efforts in pushing for justice were enough proof of their commitment to ensuring the culprits who participated in the murder of his brother were brought to book.
“The government is good just because of two great men, my friend Governor James Orengo, who came to Nairobi for two days insisting to know who killed Willis. Honourable Atandi was also with him, these two men were also in the mortuary, sitting there the whole day,” Ayiekos's brother said.
Speaking on Ayieko’s death, the deceased brother went ahead to question the motive behind the human resource manager’s death, even as he linked his brother’s death to a suspected criminal syndicate allegedly controlled by a high-profile individual.
The family members termed the deceased as a fine gentleman who was straightforward with a soft-spoken nature. “He could use diplomatic language to settle disputes,” narrated a family member.
“In my mind, whoever wanted Willis dead should not have done it the way they did. I saw that video and deleted it. You do not do that. Why do you want to maim somebody in such a manner, for whatever reason?” questioned another family member.
On October 18, Willis Ayieko reportedly went missing after attending a funeral vigil in Gem Sub-County, Siaya County. After several days of searching, the deceased's body was recovered on October 23, near a stream along the Siaya Kakamega border.
Following his recovery, police officers launched a manhunt for his killers, with the first suspect arrested on October 29 at the Dandora area in Nairobi after forensic evidence placed him at the scene of the crime.
A day later, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cornered two more suspects. This is after mounting an impromptu operation at the Wagai area of Gem, Siaya County, cornering the suspects, however, the situation turned chaotic.
A confrontation ensued between the officers and the suspects forcing the detectives to shoot down one of the suspects. During the fierce exchange, one suspect escaped with a gun wound.
The arrested suspect was rushed to the hospital after sustaining a gun but the latter succumbed while receiving treatment. On October 31, the officers once again shot dead another suspect who initially fled arrest.
