A 64-year-old woman has today just completed a six-hour swimming marathon at the Nakuru Athletic Club.

In a heartwarming show of charity, Sally Njeri today swam for six hours nonstop in a bid to raise funds for children living with autism and also get equipment for the Kenya Life Savers Federation.

Speaking before the swimming marathon, Sally gave details on what she was embarking on to do. ”Today I am doing a six-hour challenge, where I am going to swim for six hours straight without coming out of the water,” she noted.

“I am raising funds for children with autism and lifesaving rescue divers. I would wish for all of us to donate what you have, it doesn’t matter the amount,” she continued.

The sexagenarian, a person who is between 60 and 69 years old, noted that children living with autism are majorly neglected by society, adding that more awareness needs to be raised of their struggles.

“Let us support these children. They are children that are normally left out, but I want as from today I want us to be thinking of these children so that we can leave them with a smile on their faces.”

The 64-year-old Njeri began swimming at 8:55am and was livestreaming her imperious feat on her Facebook page. However, 26 minutes before she finished swimming, Njeri started developing muscle cramps that threatened to end her swimming attempt. Unbowed, Njeri pressed on and finished the six-hour sojourn.

Njeri provided an MPESA number to which people would channel their contributions. She added that plans were underway to introduce a Paybill number that would become the official point of contribution.

“Well-wishers can send their contributions to the MPESA number 0721101851 until next week when a paybill will be prepared then we can start paying to the Paybill,” she added.

Sally Njeri is a professional swimmer and a volunteer diver who is attached to the Kenya Life Savers Federation. Njeri dropped out of university to take up diving as a career.

Njeri has been a professional diver for over 25 years despite the numerous challenges that the diving sector faces. Notably, Njeri played a crucial role in the 41-day search and recovery mission of three bodies retrieved from Lake Nakuru after a helicopter crash in 2017.
