Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday announced that they had made a breakthrough in the investigation of a case where bones, believed to belong to a female victim, were discovered at the entrance of Lang’ata Cemetery in Nairobi.
In a shocking turn of events, the officers revealed that Hashim Dagane Muhumed, the primary suspect in the murders of three women from Eastleigh, is now also a person of interest and a suspect in the Lang’ata case.
According to the DCI, preliminary evidence from CCTV footage at various locations in Nairobi, including a major supermarket, captured Muhumed with the woman shortly before her disappearance.
‘’While following up on crucial exhibits recovered at the scene, the detectives proceeded to a Quickmart supermarket within the city where it was established that the victim of the murder most foul was a lady who was captured by CCTV cameras while shopping on 29/10/2024,’’ DCI stated in a statement.
The lady is said to have entered an apartment after shopping at the Supermarket, where CCTV images showed her in the company of the suspect, and they are believed to have spent time together.
Later, Muhumed was captured leaving the apartment carrying two bags, suspected to be containing the remains of the victim which were later recovered at the cemetery.
‘’Further, it has been established that once done with her shopping, the lady proceeded to an apartment in Lavington, where she was yet again captured by the CCTV cameras while entering the said premises,’’ the detectives revealed.
‘’Armed with crucial leads, the detectives have established that the lady was in the company of Hashim Dagane, who was residing in the said apartment where the duo spent time before Dagane was on 31/10/2024 captured leaving the apartment carrying two bags suspected to have contained the remains of the victim that were later in the day discovered at Langata cemetery,’’ DCI added.
Detectives stated that their investigations had established that, after the suspect left the apartment, the property owner repainted the room in an attempt to conceal evidence, without notifying authorities of the events that had occurred.
The apartment owner, who has since gone into hiding, is now being sought by police.
‘’It has also been verified that after Dagane left the apartment, the owner discovered what had happened in his premises, went ahead and cleared the mess, had the rooms re-painted and thereafter went under. He is being sought, and it is just a matter of time before he is smoked out of his hideout to face relevant charges,’’ DCI revealed.
Police believe the bones discovered at Lang’ata Cemetry could be those of Deka Abdinoor Gorone, a woman who was reported missing at California police station on October 24, this year.
