Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Tuesday arrested a 21-year-old male believed to have murdered his employer in Nairobi over low pay. The suspect had worked at the homestead for just a month.

According to the DCI, the 21-year-old casual labourer was arrested after evidence linked him to the gruesome murder of a woman said to be his employer.

The offence was committed on Sunday, November 10, in Nairobi's Kasarani estate before the suspect escaped to a hideout. He is reported to have murdered the woman before hiding the body in a septic tank.

''In the sad incident reported at Njathaini Police Station, the deceased's body was discovered sprawled at her homestead and the suspect, a casual labourer at the Kasarani home, was missing,'' DCI revealed in a statement.

The detectives revealed that the suspect was apprehended from a hideout he had staged at Kinoo in Kiambu County.

The detectives added that the suspect was arrested alongside his 22-year-old cousin who had been sheltering him after the heinous act was committed.

DCI added that investigations from the two led them to Githurai estate where a mobile phone was discovered.

Police revealed that the gadget is believed to belong to the murdered woman and was found in a repair shop that the suspect sold it to.

''After interrogating the suspects, detectives furthered the investigation to Githurai 44, where they recovered the mobile phone of the deceased at a phone repair shop belonging to 22-year-old Benjamin Kimani Mwaura. He was also taken into custody,'' DCI added.

The suspects were detained at Kasarani Police Station in Nairobi as police continued their investigations before being arraigned in court today to face murder charges.

This is even as investigations continue to unravel the latest trend where femicide cases have continued to sprawl. Over 100 cases have been documented of female victims that have been killed within the last four months alone.

Kasarani estate has been continuously linked to homicide cases,  a worrying trend for the policing authorities.
