The United Democratic Movement (UDM) Party has condemned the abduction of Wajir Member of County Assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed that took place in Nairobi.

Speaking at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi while receiving new members, UDM’s party leader Ali Roba emphasised the need for justice to be served to the family.

He stressed that any allegations against the MCA need to be addressed through legal means adding that the abduction of the MCA has caused untold pain to the family of Hussein, the community, and the UDM party.

“We are calling on the Inspector General of police, the director of criminal investigations (DCI), the National Intelligence Service (NIS), and any other agencies that may be holding the honourable Yusuf to immediately bring him to court,” he warned.

“If there are any allegations against him (Hussein), he should be allowed to face them through the proper channels of justice,” he added.

The party leader also welcomed new members from Dagoretti who joined the party. UDM party boosts four governors elected on its ticket, two elected senators, and one nominated senator.

Additionally, the party has six elected members of parliament (MPs) and one nominated MP as well as 18 elected MCAs and 13 nominated MCAs.

Della Anole ward MCA, who was a minority whip in Wajir County Assembly and elected under UDM was abducted in Nairobi on September 13 by armed men.

On October 20, a body supposedly belonging to the Wajir MCA was found dumped in Lake Yahud with kin identifying the body.

However, examinations of the DNA results the following week showed that the body retrieved from Lake Yahud did not match that of the Yussuf.

At the end of October, kin of Hussein went to the High Court seeking orders to have the MCA produced dead or alive.

Before the High Court Judge Alexander Muteti, the family argued that the government may have deposited the wrong body in Lake Yahud to mislead the family of the missing MCA.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, November 7, the Inspector General (IG) of Police Douglas Kanja maintained that no arrests have been made so far over the abduction of Wajir member of county assembly (MCA) Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.

Pressure has been building up from various quotas including human rights groups and the family of the MCA to have Yusuf produced.
