The Top 100 Kenyans list is out and in it are some big names who have had a tremendous impact in the sporting world this year.
Whether it is smashing records or putting Kenya on the world map through some unique sporting disciplines, the top 100 Kenyans of 2024 contained some notable names in sports who fully deserved to be there.
Here are 7 sports personalities who shook up 2024;
Alexandra Ndolo
While Kenya is renowned for putting her name on the world map through athletics, one Kenyan is determined to break barriers through a unique sporting discipline.
Kenyan fencer Alexandra Ndolo to the mat at the Paris Olympics but unfortunately exited the women’s Epee round of 32, losing narrowly to Ukrainian Olena Kryvytska.
Despite the defeat, Ndolo is looking to the future and her impressive showing in a sport rarely talked about earned her a place in the Top 100 Kenyans of 2024.
Faith Kipyegon
Faith Kipyegon needs no introduction. The mother of one has been Kenya's shining light on the tracks over the last few years when she seemingly reached the peak of her powers.
Not only did she claim her third consecutive Olympic gold in Paris in August, Kipyegon also took silver in the 5000 metres - further highlighting the 30-year-old's versatility on the track.
Mary Moraa
Besides Kipyegon, another top female athlete in the country is Mary Moraa.
Orphaned as a toddler, Moraa forged her own path to beat the odds and become Kenya's best export in the 800m races.
She endured disappointment at the Paris Olympics but out of sheer determination, she bounced back tremendously, running a world's best time in the 600m in Berlin and subsequently beating a record held by Caster Semenya since 2017.
Angela Okutoyi
Not enough credit is given to Angela Okutoyi who, like Alexandra Ndolo, is also putting Kenya on the world map thanks to her venture in the underrated sport of Tennis.
The 18-year-old earned her place in the Top 100 Kenyans of 2024 thanks to her impressive showing at the Australian Open Juniors, where she became the first Kenyan to win it.
She also became the first Kenyan to go past the second round at a Grand Slam tournament.
Samson Opiyo Ojuka
Still in athletics, Samson Opiyo Ojuka saved Kenya from the embarrassment of walking away from the Paris Paralympic Games without a trophy.
The Kenyatta University Law Students won a silver medal in the men’s long jump T37 category in what was Kenya's only medal at the competition.
Notably, his jump of 6.20 meters, achieved on September 3 at the Stade de France, set a new African record.
He also became the first Kenyan to win a medal in the long jump at both the Paralympic and Olympic levels.
Aldrine Kibet
The young football star has been on the ascendancy in Kenyan football this year. Playing primarily as an attacking midfielder, Aldrine Kibet has a mix of skills, vision and flair.
His performances at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament are what ultimately catapulted him to stardom in 2024, earning him a place in the top 100 Kenyans of 2024.
Ruth Chepngetich
The list would not be complete without Ruth Chepngetich, whose record-shattering time at the marathon almost looked too good to be true.
The Kenyan superstar clocked 2: 09:57, slashing nearly two minutes off the previous record held by Ethiopian Tigst Assefa.
