Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Saturday, December 7, reminisced on his daughter Ngina Kenyatta’s 2022 wedding.
In an impassioned speech during Kalonzo Musyoka’s daughter’s wedding, Uhuru recalled how hard it was to say goodbye to his daughter and how he tried every trick in the book to delay the occasion.
“One of the most difficult things to do is saying kwaheri (goodbye) to a daughter. I went through that,” he said in his speech.
“I tried every trick in the book to delay the wedding; blaming Covid, the upcoming elections, urging her to wait a bit and plan. Eventually, I ran out of excuses.”
In his speech, the former President also lauded the groom, Martin Nyaga, for choosing to marry Kalonzo’s daughter, Damarie Saada, the right way.
“You decided to come through the front door. That is a sign of a boy well brought up and we congratulate you,” he said.
He went on to tickle the guests to laughter by wishing that the dance session had lasted longer as he had recently taken up dancing.
Uhuru was the highlight of the outdoor wedding held in Naivasha over the weekend as his rare appearance prompted different reactions from Kenyans.
In wedding pictures seen by Kenyans.co.ke, Uhuru is seen interacting with Kalonzo as well as other political heavyweights including Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa who attended the wedding.
In June 2022, Ngina Kenyatta wedded Alex Mwai in a secretive traditional wedding ceremony.
The news was first broken by Dennis Itumbi who took to social media to congratulate the couple posting, “Ngina Kenyatta, Congratulations on your Traditional Wedding.”
“May God fill your journey with blessings solidify your union with renewed love and importantly grant you a great family," he added.
True to her private nature, Ngina’s wedding pictures have never been released to the public leaving Kenyans to rely on their imaginations.
Her husband Alex Mwai is the son of the then Karen Club General Manager Sam Mwai.
