The Kenya Meteorological Department has released a revised five-day weather forecast for the period from Saturday, February 8, to Wednesday, February 12, 2025, indicating that most parts of the country will experience dry and sunny conditions.

Rainfall is expected to be confined mainly to southwestern Kenya and areas along the Tanzania border.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, and Tharaka, the forecast predicts predominantly dry conditions, but there are chances of showers on Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday afternoons.

Showers are to be expected in the evening on Monday as well. On Wednesday, however, the Met predicts a chance of rains all day, with light rains in the morning and showers in the afternoon and night.

Temperatures in these regions are forecasted to hit highs of 28°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, with minimum temperatures reaching up to 10°C over the two days. The other three days will see highs of 27°C and lows of 8°C.

For the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, Lake Victoria Basin, and the broader Rift Valley region—which encompasses counties such as Kisumu, Kisii, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Busia—they may experience showers in the morning, afternoon, and evening on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be cloudy with sunny intervals. Temperatures will reach highs of 31°C and lows of 09°C.

Coastal counties, including Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale, are expected to remain mostly dry during the day, with occasional cloudiness at night. Daytime temperatures in these regions are forecasted to exceed 32°C, while nighttime temperatures may reach up to 21°C.

In the southeastern lowlands, covering Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado, and Taita Taveta counties, as well as inland parts of Tana River County, the forecast indicates rainy conditions on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.

The showers are expected in the afternoons, with morning and night forecast to be partly cloudy. Temperatures in these areas are expected to reach highs of 31°C, with lows around 12°C over the five days.

The counties in the northeast of the country—Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, and Isiolo—can expect sunny intervals in the morning and afternoon, with the night expected to be partly cloudy. Temperatures in this region will reach highs of 38°C and lows of 17°C.

The Director General of the Kenya Meteorological Department, Dr. David Gikungu, has cautioned residents in the northwestern and northeastern parts of the country to remain vigilant due to anticipated strong southeasterly winds reaching speeds of up to 25 knots (12.5 m/s).
