A 42-year-old Kenyan man, John Gitau Mwangi, was arrested in Texas, United States, in connection with an incident in which he allegedly shot his wife multiple times at their home.
According to the Killeen Police Department, the victim, a 37-year-old Kenyan woman, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the attack. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to police reports in Texas, the wife was found with serious injuries at their home located on Lakecrest Drive in Killeen on Friday, February 21, after officers were called to the residence for a welfare check.
Reports further indicated that paramedics who arrived at the scene attempted to save the woman’s life, but she succumbed to her injuries two hours later.
The police believe that the shooting was related to domestic violence and stated that there was no risk to the public from the act of the suspect.
At the time of the incident, two of their children were in the house and were later found unharmed by the police who responded to the incident.
Additionally, the police revealed that the children seemed to be unaware of the incident where the father shot their mother.
The man believed to be working with the military in the foreign nation escaped from the scene after committing the heinous act.
Detectives from the Robbery-Homicide Unit obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect and launched a manhunt for the suspect.
He was later located and taken into custody at Fort Cavazos, the military facility where he was stationed, and is expected to be formally charged in the coming days upon conclusion of investigations.
The suspect is currently being held at the Killeen City Jail where he faces serious charges that could carry a life sentence or even the death penalty under Texas law.
The incident comes two months after another Kenyan man was arrested in the US over the suspicion of killing his partner who was later found dismembered in a car after she went missing for a week.
According to Delaware and Maryland police, the suspect was arrested after investigations pointed out that he could be a person of interest in what was suspected to be a love triangle.
