The Orange Democratic Movement has announced the dismissal of all county election coordinators in Nairobi County ahead of the party's grassroots elections next week.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 2, the party's Secretary-General, Edwin Sifuna, also confirmed the expulsion of the chair of the elections coordinators in Migori and some coordinators in Siaya counties.

According to Sifuna, the party, through the National Elections Coordinating Committee (NECC), will announce new coordinators in the three counties before Saturday, April 7.

"The county elections coordinators for Nairobi, all of them, have been dismissed. Also, the chair of coordinators in Migori and some of the coordinators in Siaya County are to be replaced with immediate effect. New coordinators shall be announced to take up those slots by the NECC," he said.

Additionally, ODM's central committee has endorsed Wajir County Governor Ahmed Abdullahi Mohamed as the new National Organizing Secretary, following the resignation of Abdisalan Ahmed, who was appointed Principal Secretary in the State Department for National Government Coordination by President William Ruto.

"The party's central committee this morning confirmed receipt of the resignation of Abdisalan Ahmed, who was until today our National Organizing Secretary. Following his nomination for the position of PS, we offer him our best wishes as he goes for vetting this Friday and in his new role, should he secure it," Sifuna stated.

The party is expected to kickstart its grassroots elections on Monday, April 7, in all the 47 counties, according to the ODM Director of Communications, Phillip Etale.

The elections will be conducted at the ward level on Monday, where only delegates elected at the polling unit shall participate.

On Wednesday, April 9, the elected delegates at the ward level will proceed to the constituency-level elections.

"The exercise is a continuation of the elections held on November 17, 2024, where party members elected officials at the polling unit level. Monday's election will be conducted at the sub-branch level, which is the ward," Sifuna stated.

According to NECC Chairperson Emily Awita, the party has already deployed returning officers and presiding officers to all 290 constituencies to ensure a smooth election process.

"We are fully prepared for the exercise. It is all systems go, and we expect everything to run smoothly," she said.
