The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, April 4, announced the arrest of the main suspect behind the gruesome murder of a Bomet businesswoman.

Through a statement, the DCI revealed they had arrested the man behind the murder, who was a disgruntled former lover of the woman.

“Bomet Central detectives have arrested the prime suspect behind the vicious murder of a Bomet businesswoman, whose lifeless body was discovered on March 25, 2025,” the DCI stated.

The woman was found in her home by her daughter, lying in a pool of blood, with deep neck wounds and multiple stab injuries to her arm, chest, and back. This discovery came after the daughter’s efforts to reach her mother had proved futile.

The man was apprehended from his hideout in a village after a probe was launched over a week after he allegedly committed the crime.

“Determined to unravel the mystery behind this cold-blooded crime, detectives launched an intensive probe. Through forensic trails, the suspect was eventually tracked down in his hideout in Sailo village, Kipkelion East Sub-County, and arrested,” noted the sleuths.

Upon his arrest, the suspect led the detectives to his home, where items linking him to the crime were recovered. Among the items found were the suspected murder weapon, a bloodstained knife wrapped in a cloth, and the deceased's ring.

Another significant discovery made during the investigation was a mobile phone that contained disturbing photographs of the victim’s body, taken by the suspect after the killing.

The motive behind the murder was suspected to be a case of a love story gone wrong, with the former lover reportedly harbouring ill feelings.

“The suspect is said to have harbored resentment after the victim ended their romantic relationship in 2016, choosing to move on with another man,” the sleuths stated.

“Allegedly, the suspect felt betrayed after spending money on her during their time together,” the investigative body added.

The suspect is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending his court appearance.
