The radio scene in Kenya is set for a considerable change after veteran radio personality Sheila Kwamboka, popularly known as 'Kwambox', and her co-host Kerry Martin announced their departure from Kiss100.
In a statement released on Tuesday, April 29, Kwambox revealed that she would host her final show on Wednesday, April 30.
While she did not reveal her next destination, Kwamboka strongly hinted she would explore other avenues, saying, "It's time for change."
"Stepping into the new you requires letting go of the old you! Tomorrow is the end of a very significant chapter in my life! For 13 years, radio has been my identity! It's time for change! Tomorrow, I will host my last show," she shared.
On his part, Kerry looked back at his radio career, stating, "It’s been 11 years on radio. From my first show on Homeboyz Radio in 2014 to wrapping up Kenya’s biggest breakfast show on Kiss 100, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing," he shared.
"I’ve had the honour of doing what I love, with people I love — friends who became family, and listeners who became part of my story. Every laugh, every debate, every early morning — I gave it everything. And you gave me more in return."
Kwambox has been a radio heartthrob for over a decade and, over time, has gained a legion of loyal supporters who follow her wherever she works.
Her journey in the media industry began at K24, where she covered considerable events, including the infamous post-election mayhem. She eventually transitioned from television to radio and has, in the past, admitted she sought a platform which aligned better with her passion.
Kwambox's radio career completely took off at Homeboyz Radio, where she hosted the famous 'Ignition Drive' for seven years before leaving in 2019.
At Homeboyz, she earned a cheeky reputation with her witty jokes and humour, which earned her plaudits on social media.
After leaving HBR in 2019, she joined Vybez Radio, where she hosted a show alongside Brian Mbunde, before making the considerable move to Radio Africa Group in January 2023, replacing Kamene Goro and Oga Obinna.
At Radio Africa, she established herself as one of the most marketable personalities online thanks to her morning show alongside her male co-host Kerry Martin.
Notably, Kwambox had a brief stint in reality TV after making an appearance on Big Brother Africa in the third and fifth seasons - a fact which highlights her range in the entertainment scene.
Long before the start of her radio career, Kwambox also ventured into modelling, and unbeknownst to many, won the Miss Tourism Kenya back in 2005.
