Kitengela Sub-County Hospital suffered significant damage on July 7 after hundreds of individuals broke into and vandalized the facility during the Saba Saba Day demonstrations. The attack disrupted critical healthcare services and raised alarms over the targeting of public institutions.

Reacting to the incident, the County Government of Kajiado has urged security agencies to launch a thorough investigation. County officials called for the immediate identification and arrest of all those involved in the brazen act of vandalism, emphasizing the need for accountability.

"We call on security agencies to investigate thoroughly, identify those involved, and ensure accountability under the rule of law," a statement from the County Government emphasized.

The Kajiado County Department of Medical Services and Public Health, however, confirmed that no patients or staff suffered physical harm during the July 7 attack.

The department narrated that a group of individuals arrived at the facility with an injured person, but it turned unruly, intimidating medical staff, and disrupting the emergency service.

It warned that targeting a healthcare institution is unacceptable and undermines public trust and access to critical medical care.

"Any act that threatens the safety of our frontline workers or undermines essential medical care is not only irresponsible but also indefensible. Such actions have no place in our society," the statement reads.

The department condemned the act, saying it endangered the safety and dignity of both patients and healthcare workers.

"Their actions caused unnecessary panic, interfered with operations, and endangered the safety and dignity of patients and that of our frontline health workers," part of the statement reads.

The department added that measures have already been taken to reinforce hospital security and provide psychological support to the affected staff.

It also applauded the medical team at Kitengela Sub-County Hospital for remaining calm and professional during the ordeal.

In the statement, the County leaders also called on all community members and partners to unite in condemning acts of violence and to promote peace and respect for healthcare workers across the region.
