The Director of Public Prosecutions has freshly charged the five suspects accused of murdering Kasipul MP Charles Ong'ondo Were.
This is after the DPP decided to consolidate two separate cases previously filed at the Kibera and Milimani Law Courts.
This means that, going forward, the cases will be tried as a single case and will be heard in one court.
Previously, three people had been charged at the Kibera Law Courts and the other two at the Milimani Law Courts, where they all pleaded not guilty.
Lady Justice Diana Kavedza of the Kibera Law Courts subsequently approved the consolidation application, allowing the prosecution to proceed with a joint case against all five accused.
She further scheduled a bond ruling for those charged at Kibera High Court for August 14, and a separate one for those charged at Kilimani for September 22.
The five were accused of colluding in carrying out the murder of the MP on the night of April 30 at around 7:40pm.
His to-be killers from Parliament trailed MP Were and ultimately shot him dead near the City Mortuary Roundabout along Ngong Road in Kilimani.
His bodyguard is among those subsequently charged with the murder, as he reportedly jumped out of the car as the gunman hopped onto a getaway motorcycle.
Witnesses said he chased the motorcycle for a short distance before he raced back to the car to join the driver and rushed the bleeding MP to the nearby Nairobi Hospital.
As the police set out on a manhunt for the killers, even the MP's driver was arrested.
Several items, including a sum of Ksh615,000, were found in one of the suspect's houses in Nairobi, believed to have been paid for the mission.
Two pistols, with one later being identified as the murder weapon, and a motorcycle used as a getaway were also recovered in the course of the investigation.
