The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) now says that motorists who have already updated their vehicle records do not need to repeat the process.
The Authority noted that the notice issued on July 29, which provided guidelines for updating the vehicle records and duty status, was only meant for motorists who had yet to update their details.
While addressing the matter on Wednesday morning, NTSA said that the directive was also meant for vehicle owners who previously uploaded incorrect information to their system.
NTSA's clarification followed concerns by a section of motorists who demanded to know why the Authority initially directed all motorists to update their information without specifying.
"It is very important to indicate that distinction in the notice so that we do not waste time visiting your offices for no reason," commented a motorist.
"This post is very confusing; you should have directed those who don't have their accounts in order. But stating that all vehicle owners are just alarming," said another driver.
In response, NTSA clarified: "If the duty status is correct and all the vehicle details or records are in order, a motor vehicle owner does not have to request an update."
Similarly, the Authority noted that the process of updating the records and duty status was free of charge, dismissing reports by some users about potential charges.
NTSA yesterday directed vehicle and motorcycle owners to update their vehicle records and duty status as part of the move to enhance transparency and efficiency.
According to the Authority, the update was also part of the broader strategy to curb fraud, verify vehicle authenticity, and improve the accuracy of vehicle data.
"In undertaking its mandate, the Authority has operationalised the duty update and vehicle records update tool to provide necessary support to all motor vehicle and motorcycle owners," NTSA announced.
Motorists seeking to update their records were urged to provide the KRA entry document, the original logbook of the vehicle, a copy of the identification card and a duty payment receipt.
