Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon has won the 3000m women's race at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.

The race was held on Saturday, August 16, where she clocked an impressive 8:07.04.

Kipyegon went desperately close to breaking the long-standing Women's 3000m world record of 8:06.11.

The world record was set by Wang Junxia in September 1993 and has been standing for 32 years.

Kipyegon is now the second-fastest athlete over 3000m in history.

With the win, Kipyegon has broken multiple records, the African Record, National Record, Diamond League Record, World Lead, and Personal Best, among others.

This was her first official attempt at the distance since she was 20.

She totally dominated the race, winning it by almost 200m. Her record was followed by 8:34.53 and 8:35.51.

The race demanded the blend of speed she possesses from her 1500m world record and the endurance that she carries to the 5000m world record.

In an era when many women have claimed distance running’s top honours, this remains one of its most enduring barriers.

Kipyegon has been on the record for exemplary performances. She is the only woman to win three Olympic 1500m titles, claiming gold at Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.

Her form in 2025 has also been exceptional. In June, she ran the fastest mile in history, albeit in an exhibition event that could not be ratified.

In July, she returned to Eugene to lower her own 1500m world record to 3:48.68, the third time she has rewritten that mark.
