NYS Announces Recruitment Drive for 130 Technical Instructors and Lecturers

The National Youth Service (NYS) has announced a major recruitment drive for Technical Instructors and Lecturers, with the exercise scheduled for September 2025. 

In a statement on August 19, NYS stated that the Service is seeking to fill 130 vacancies across 29 different fields.

"The National Youth Service (NYS) is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of (181) Technical Instructors and Lecturers scheduled to take place in the month of September 2025," the NYS statement reads.

The Service has urged all applicants to complete Application for Employment Form PSC.2 (Revised 2016). Applicants must compile the completed form, along with a detailed curriculum vitae, certified copies of academic certificates, testimonials and a copy of their national identity card or passport, in a sealed envelope.

The envelope then need to be clearly marked with the title of the position applied for and then sent to the NYS offices by September 1, 2025.

Among the announced vacancies, fields with one opening each include Accounting, Farm Management, Entrepreneurship, Human Resource Management, Nutrition and Dietetics, and Sales and Marketing.

There are two vacancies for instructors in Irrigation and Drainage Technology, Horticulture, Catering and Accommodation, Secretarial Studies, Supply Chain Management, Carpentry and Joinery, Diploma in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (Cosmetology), and Plant and Services Engineering.

Fields with three job openings are Agriculture, Engineering, and Fashion Design. Four vacancies are available for instructors in Food and Beverage, Mechanical Engineering (Plant), and Business Management.

The service is also seeking to recruit six technical instructors in General Agriculture and Animal Health and Production. 

There are eight vacancies for instructors in Building and Construction, Electrical Engineering, and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

The highest number of openings are in Plumbing (9), Information Communication Technology (ICT) (10), and Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication and Metallurgy (11). The largest number of vacancies, 22 in total, are for instructors in Automotive Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical).

For Lecturer Vacancies, applicants must also have a Certificate in Computer Applications from a recognized institution. An NYS Discharge Certificate is considered an added advantage. Additionally, candidates must fulfil the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.

According to the Service, successful candidates will receive a monthly salary of between Ksh28,620 and Ksh37,100, and will be covered by the Social Health Authority (SHA) medical plan. House, leave, and commuter allowances will be provided as they exist in the civil service.

Additionally, NYS has announced 13 lecturer positions in eight different fields. This includes one vacancy in Languages-French, Secretarial Studies, and Entrepreneurship.

There are two openings for lecturers in the following fields: Business Management, Hospitality Management, Commerce (Human Resource Management), Fashion and Textile Design, and Supply Chain Management.

For these positions, candidates must also have a Certificate in Computer Applications and meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution. Successful applicants will earn a monthly salary ranging from Ksh34,420 to Ksh46,120. Other employment conditions are similar to those for Technical Instructor III positions.

The Service has also advertised 38 vacancies for Lecturer I positions across 22 fields. NYS is looking to hire one lecturer in each of the following fields: Agricultural Economics, Animal Health Science, Construction Plant, Civil & Structural Engineering, Quantity Survey, Catering and Hotel Management, Food Nutrition and Dietetics, and Commerce Marketing.

There are two openings for lecturers in Mathematics and Computing, Agriculture, Commerce (Finance and Accounting), Economics, Statistics, Information Science, Aeronautical Engineering, Architecture, and Industrial Plant Engineering.

Finally, the Service has three vacancies for lecturers in Information Communication Technology, Automotive Engineering, Electrical & Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, Building Construction, Horticulture, and Agricultural Engineering.
