JCM Bishop Ben Kamau, commonly known as Muthee Kiengei, has announced that he will donate an ambulance bought in June to the modern hospital TikTokers are planning to build.
Plans to build the hospital gained momentum after the recent story of a 17-year-old male TikToker dubbed Kaluma Boy, who used the platform to share videos documenting the struggles of his father, who suffered from a stroke.
On Sunday, September 28, hundreds of Kenyans visited the Kaluma Boy at his village in Othaya, Nyeri County, to support him and his ailing father.
Speaking during a church service on Sunday, on Sunday, October 5, for the Thanksgiving Service of Kaluma Boy, Kiengei, revealed that the ambulance, which was bought in June this year, has already been put to use to take care of Kaluma Boy's father and will be the first asset of the content creators' hospital.
"Some things that are happening in Kenya are because a Kenyan youth is using a phone as it is supposed to be used. I want to thank all Kenyan TikTokers who are here. May God bless you because of Kaluma Boy," Kiengei said.
"We sent our ambulance to take care of Kaluma Boy's father, and that ambulance will be the first asset of the hospital that you are building. So the ones that were asking why I bought that ambulance, they have already seen their use," he added.
After the proposal to build the hospital surfaced, the Head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy Coordination, Dennis Itumbi, welcomed the move, labelling it as brilliant and in line with the government's ambition to offer free and affordable healthcare to all Kenyans.
“That is a brilliant idea, Kenyans have created hospitals in this country through offerings, that is why we have faith-based hospitals. President Ruto is also overseeing the construction of 70 hospitals by the KDF," Itumbi stated.
"So if TikTokers can organise themselves and build another hospital, then it is brilliant. Such initiatives are welcomed, and that is a very brilliant idea," Itumbi added.
Kiengei noted that Kaluma Boy's story is a testament to how the accelerating rate of social media uptake among the youth could become the key catalyst for the country's social and economic growth.
During the Thanksgiving ceremony, the bishop further revealed that Kaluma Boy has secured a full university scholarship at the East African University and will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing with an emphasis on digital marketing.
"Dr Christopher Mutembei is the Vice Chancellor of the East African University, and this morning, he has confirmed that Kaluma Boy has been granted a full scholarship in the East African University, and Kaluma Boy will undertake a course in Sales and Marketing to enhance his skills in digital marketing," Kiengei stated.
