Machakos County has penned a demand letter to media personality Oga Obinna, following an interview he conducted with aggrieved comedian Sammy Kioko.
Kioko's widely publicised dispute with the county government involves an alleged non-payment of Ksh19 million for services he provided. The core issue is that the county asserts Kioko is not registered as a director of any company it deals with.
During his interview with Obinna on November 10, the comedian recounted how the non-payment of the money had impacted his businesses and mental well-being, a situation he says forced him to seek assistance from close friends.
He further revealed that several attempts to reach out to senior county officials, including the governor, proved futile, triggering a series of accusations and counter-accusations.
As such, the Wavinya Ndeti-led administration has since doubled down on its claims that it did not enter into any contract with Kioko, demanding that Obinna provide any documents backing his claims during the interview.
"This letter is therefore to demand that you supply us with the documents confirming the said Sammy Kioko's claim against the County Government of Machakos as published in your show, failure of which we will be forced to take action against yourselves for the hosting, publishing and disseminating false information on your YouTube Channel and your social media channels, whereas the said information is skewed, false, malicious and does not paint the real picture," part of the letter read.
In the letter, written by the county's solicitor, the county accused Obinna of besmirching the county's officials and other leaders from the region, who he said have nothing to do with the running of the county affairs.
Obinna responded to the county government on social media, saying that it ought to have simply contacted Kioko.
"Sammy Kioko, please bring the contracts and delivery notes signed and stamped by the county government officials so that my lawyer can send them to the county government of Machakos," Obinna said.
