The police recruitment, which is set to take place on Monday, November 17, will be a one-day exercise, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has now revealed.

In a statement issued on Friday, November 14, Kanja disclosed that the recruitment would take place at 427 centres across the country.

According to the statement, the recruitment exercise will take place from 8 am to 5 pm, with at least 10,000 new constables set to be recruited.

“On 31st October 2025, the National Police Service (NPS) placed an advertisement in all the leading daily newspapers, announcing the recruitment of 10,000 suitably qualified youths to be trained as police constables,” read the statement in part.

“The recruitment is confirmed to proceed as scheduled on Monday, 17th November 2025, from 8 am until 5 pm at all 427 recruitment centres across the country. It is a one-day exercise,” it added.

The statement came hours after the High Court lifted the suspension of the recruitment exercise, paving the way for the long-awaited process to begin.

The suspension was lifted by Justice Bahati Mwamuye, who, on Monday, November 10, halted the recruitment pending the determination of a petition by Eliud Matindi, an activist.

Matindi had challenged the recruitment exercise announced by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja on November 4, arguing that the IG lacked constitutional authority to independently conduct the recruitment.

While inviting eligible Kenyans, NPS termed the recruitment drive as a new dawn for Kenya and an opportunity for young men and women to form a new cohort of officers expected to drive the positive and reformist agenda currently underway in the Service.

Contrary to the military recruitment process, which takes several days, the police recruitment will only be for a day, showing the differences between the two forms of disciplined forces.

Minimum requirements for police recruitment include being Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, holding a valid national ID, and having at least a D+ in KCSE with a minimum D+ in either English or Kiswahili.

Candidates are also required to be physically and medically fit, with a minimum height of 5ft 8in for males and 5ft 3in for females. Female applicants must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

At the same time, those with felony records or pending charges will be ineligible, while National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the minimum requirements are encouraged to apply.

Also, NPS warned against graft in the recruitment drive, warning that anyone who indulges, or attempts to indulge, in bribery or graft in any form, whether as a giver or a taker-would face the full force of the law.
