The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party has addressed the growing speculation surrounding the position of President of the Youth League within the party.
This follows a publication circulated yesterday at an ODM event in Mombasa which claimed that the political activist Samuel McOure was the party's Youth League President.
In a statement released on Saturday morning, the party clarified that these proclamations were false and misleading, reiterating that Johnmark Ketorah was the legitimate Youth League President.
"The President of the ODM Youth League is Honourable Johnmark Ketorah. Ignore any publication circulating containing misleading information on the same," read ODM's statement.
The clarification came after a publication issued to some ODM party members at the party's 20th anniversary ceremony in Mombasa County on Friday November 14 listed McOure, among others, as a party leader in various positions.
McOure was indicated as the party's Youth League President, which sparked questions about the authenticity of the newsletter and the party's official organisational structure.
While Kasmuel has been largely known to be an active member and supporter of the party, the political activist has yet to land any significant role within ODM.
In 2024, he was appointed by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as part of the party's youth and student league members. At ODM, he has been tasked with mobilising youths to shape the party's future.
On the other hand, Johnmark, who is the current Youth League President, was formally appointed to the position by the party's National Executive Council (NEC) in 2016.
He landed the position following his recommendation by fellow youth league members, and since then, he has helped in reshaping the party's future through mobilising youths to support the party.
Meanwhile, ODM's clarification comes hardly two days after the party announced changes within its leadership, with Siaya Senator Oburu Onginga approved as the party leader.
The council also endorsed Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Vihiga Senator Geoffrey Osoti as deputy party leaders.
