The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a nine-hour traffic disruption along the Eldoret Bypass on Saturday, November 22.
In a notice released on Wednesday, the authority revealed that there will be a temporary closure of the road from the Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru).
The closure will happen between 6am to 3pm to facilitate the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race.
"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to inform the public of the temporary closure of the Eldoret Bypass (A8-North Road) from Cheplaskei Interchange to Maili Tisa (Leseru) Interchange on Saturday, November 22, 2025, between 6.00AM and 3.00PM," the notice read in part.
"This is to allow for the 2025 Ceder Sports Academy cycling race."
Therefore, the motorists planning to traverse the route at that time have been urged to instead use the Cheplaskei-Maili Tisa (A8) Road section through the Eldoret City Central Business District (CBD).
This alternative route is also commonly referred to as Uganda Road.
They have also been urged to follow the guidance from traffic police officers and traffic marshals.
The Eldoret bypass route is often used by vehicles seeking to pass through Eldoret City, and it functions as a critical part of the through-route for traffic travelling between Nakuru and areas beyond Eldoret, like Malaba and Uganda.
It is often used by long-distance trucks heading to the border towns and Uganda to beat the Eldoret.
In April this year, KeNHA was in fact petitioned to ban these trucks from cutting through Eldoret City and exclusively use the bypass instead.
The petition cited rampant road accidents caused by the trucks in Eldoret City and advised that they be automatically redirected to the bypass, which has three overpass interlinks at Ngeria, Kapseret and Leseru.
