DCI sleuths in Kilimani arrested a con artist who smooth-talked desperate job seekers out of Ksh2.5 million in a daring police recruitment scam on Saturday, November 22.

The suspect was taken into custody after three victims of his conmanship came forward, narrating how the suspect lured them with promises of “guaranteed” entry into the police service.

Armed with forged recruitment letters, Wekesa convinced the victims to part with hefty sums of money, assuring them that their slots were secured in the service.

Following this deception, the victims parted with a cumulative Ksh2.5 million, after which the con artist vanished.

Responding swiftly, detectives ambushed the suspect, arresting him at the Sagret Hotel in Kilimani.

During the raid, detectives recovered an additional twenty fake police recruitment letters, exposing a well-oiled fraud operation.

However, the conman’s accomplice managed to slip through before the officers could pin him down.

The suspected con artist is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment, as detectives follow fresh leads to apprehend his accomplice, who managed to escape.

The suspected con artist is expected to face multiple formal charges early next week, including obtaining money by false pretences and forgery, both of which carry significant penalties under the Kenyan Penal Code.

While reminding members of the public that genuine enlistment into the National Police Service is free, fair, and transparent, the DCI cautioned Kenyans to beware of fake police recruiters.

DCI encouraged anyone approached for money in exchange for a slot in the police force to report immediately to the nearest police station or through their toll-free number.
