Former Kenyan presidential candidate Mohammed Abduba Dida has resurfaced on social media months after receiving a reprieve on his legal troubles in the United States.

Dida, who was released from an Illinois prison in April, has now resurfaced with a new identity as a podcaster.

In a video that is circulating widely on social media on Sunday, the 50-year-old, who lives in Minnesota, revealed he was now following a new calling as he works to revive a charity he registered in 2017.

The former presidential candidate is also looking for office space in Minnesota to restart his operations.

Through fresh social media accounts, Dida positioned his new platform as a global spiritual outreach initiative. In one of his latest public statements directly addressing Kenyans, he called on citizens to look beyond political and social divides.

“Dear Kenyans, I want to specifically take this opportunity to speak to you. God has created us to be His representatives on this earth. We have a big, big responsibility. There are over eight billion human beings who need spiritual nourishment, who need advice, who need awakening,” he said.

“That is something that cannot be done by one person. I request you to rise above tribe and religion. Think of the world. Join me—I have a lot to share with you, and we have a lot to share with the world.”

The former Presidential candidate appears to have completely altered his path months after his release from the Big Muddy Correctional Centre, where he was serving a seven-year sentence for stalking, transmitting threats, aggravated stalking, and violating a restraining order.

Court records showed that Dida was jailed in July 2021 after he was also found guilty of violating a restraining order that his wife had obtained.

According to Dida’s kin, the presidential candidate happened to visit a prayer centre that was close to the estranged wife's home without the knowledge that it was an offence as per United States laws.

He was later paroled in April 2025 after serving three years and was allowed to see out the remainder of his sentence outside prison until his official release date in April 2029.

In his political prime, the Wajir-born politician was known for his straight talk and humorous approach to politics, especially during presidential campaigns.

He relocated to the U.S. in 2019 to pursue further studies, where he met and married an American citizen. Their union was, however, marred by controversy.
