A 12-year-old girl, who went missing last week while playing with friends, was tortured, defiled and strangled to death before her body was dumped near a police station, an autopsy report has revealed.
Patience Mumbe's body was found near Embakasi Police Station with injuries indicating that she had been tortured before being killed.
Pathologist Grace Midigo, who conducted the post-mortem examination at City Mortuary, said that the young girl had died from multiple head injuries.
Evidence collected during the examination also showed that she had been defiled prior to her death.
Mumbe went missing on Thursday of last week while playing with friends in the neighbourhood.
Her lifeless body was found two days later, prompting more questions than answers about the circumstances of her disappearance and death.
CCTV footage from several shops in the area captured Mumbe's final moments. In one clip, she can be seen running from her home towards the TajMall bus stop.
Another video shows her walking quickly and glancing back, as if to check if someone was following her, before hurrying towards the bus stop.
Detectives are now scrutinising this crucial CCTV footage, as well as other details collected from the scene. However, no suspect has been arrested yet.
Mumbe's family has so far appealed for swift action from the authorities.
"As the family, we want to appeal to the relevant authorities to fast-track the process of finding the suspect responsible for this heinous act, and to know the reason for the killing of Mumbe," they stated.
Human rights groups, including Vocal Africa, have also condemned the killing and urged investigators to speed up their ongoing probe.
