Kenyan police officers from the Peace Keeping Mission in Haiti have been celebrated as heroes during the national Jamhuri Day celebrations held at the Nyayo Stadium on Friday, December 12.

The officers were the first cohort of the Kenyan police officers under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti.

They arrived back in the country on December 9, 2025, from Haiti after serving in the Caribbean country for 18 months.

The officers were then hosted for a reception and breakfast by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen at the Administrative Police Training College in Embakasi on December 10, 2025.

During the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations, the officers were honoured for their success in the Haiti mission, which saw key infrastructure in Haiti being reclaimed from gangs.

This included the national airport, schools and medical facilities, as well as other important sites that the officers secured from the gangs.

The three officers who lost their lives during the mission to suppress the Haitian gangs were also celebrated posthumously as heroes.

As the officers returned home, another 230 officers from the Kenya Police were deployed to Haiti on December 8, 2025.

During the Jamuhuri Day fete, the officers were cheered by the jubilant crowd at Kasarani as they marched across the stadium. The officers were preceded by GSU officers and were followed closely by Border Patrol Officers.

The Haiti gang suppression officers marched with three flags: the green police flag, the Kenya Police Service flag, and the Administration Police Service flag.

The officers received a standing ovation from President William Ruto and Kenyans for their brave service in Haiti.

During their march, the officers saluted President Ruto as they passed by the presidential dais.
