16 People Injured in Matatu Accident

Sixteen people sustained injuries in a road accident along the Meru-Nairobi highway.

The matatu was headed for Nairobi from Meru when tragedy struck at Nithi bridge which is along the highway.

Reports indicate that seven of the passengers on board were students from Egoji Teachers' College, heading home for the August break.

Preliminary investigations suggest that brake failure could have been the case of the accident.

The vehicle veered off the road, ramming into the guard rails on the bridge.

Luckily, no one was killed in the accident.

The casualties -most of whom had sustained muscle and limb injuries- were rushed to Chogoria Mission Hospital where they were treated.

The vehicle has been taken into police custody to assist in investigations into the exact cause of the accident.
