Kenyans Obama Gave Special Moments: Sauti Sol, Julie Gichuru, Kavi Pratt, Olive Burrows, Joan Wamaitha

The fever of US President Barack Obama leaving the White House is a feeling that is being felt across the globe.

Kenyans have not been left behind in this worldwide trend owing to the fact that the 44th President of the First World has roots in Kenya.

Kenyans.co.ke compiled a list of five people who Obama had unforgettable encounters with and they'll undoubtedly live to always remember.

1. Capital FM Reporter, Olive Burrows

Before Obama landed in the country in 2015, there was a raging debate in the media circles on which media personality would interview the most powerful man in the world.

That golden chance landed on Capital FM's reporter Olive Burrows who had an exclusive 19 minutes with the US President.

With those 19 minutes, the little-known reporter made history by becoming the first Kenyan journalist to have a one-on-one interview with President Obama.

During the interview, Burrows probed Obama among other things his favourite holiday destinations in the country.

She studied Communication at Daystar University and very passionate about the environment. Burrows hopes to make a difference through human interests features.

2. Sauti Sol

When Obama came to Kenya in 2015, the celebrated all-boy band Sauti Sol, had the privilege of entertaining the US President at a dinner held in his honour at State House, Nairobi.

During the event, Sauti Sol got Obama on stage where they showed him some Lipala Dance moves, a dance made famous by Sauti Sol's "Sura Yako" hit-song.

After this once-in-a-lifetime experience, a portrait of Obama dancing with Sauti Sol is said to have hanged at the White House.

“Dreams do come true. A picture of us dancing with @POTUS has been placed in the @WhiteHouse in the West Wing right near the Oval Office!” Sauti Sol tweeted in 2015.

3. Julie Gichuru

Media personality and former anchor Julie Gichuru got the rare opportunity of introducing Obama at the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) held at the United Nations offices, Gigiri.

An elated Gichuru, who was moderating the talks, burst into an ululation that sparked huge excitement.

4. Kavi Pratt

Like Sauti Sol, President Uhuru Kenyatta's niece - Kavi Pratt - performed for Obama at the State House dinner.

Pratt's performance was even more special as she later disclosed that after her show, Obama sought her from backstage to personally congratulate her.

"I was backstage and I was trying to get out of my dress because I was stitched into it and I couldn;t sit down. Then my brother comes backstage and he's like Kavi we need to go now. As I climbed up to his podium. President Obama came to receive me and he was like 'Very well done you sand so will. I really appreciate you, you were amazing," Kavi said.

5. Flower girl

When Mr Obama landed on Kenyan soil, he was met by a little girl holding a bouquet of flowers.

Joan Wamaitha, who was at the time a Standard One Pupil at Mariakani Primary School in South B got the first opportunity to be hugged and converse with Obama.

She probably did not have the full picture of what happened that night but she sure will be very proud of herself later on in life.

Mr Obama is set to hand over the White House to President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, 2017.
