Senator Moses Wetangula Declares He Will Defend His Bungoma Seat

National Super Alliance (NASA) Co-principal Moses Wetangula has declared that he would defend his Bungoma Senatorial seat come August 8 on a Ford-Kenya party ticket.

Earlier reports had indicated that Mr Wetang’ula would not run for the county seat as he had been promised the position of Deputy Premier Cabinet Secretary responsible for economic sector coordination if NASA forms the next government.

Senator Wetangula's silence and refusal to be drawn into the matter had thrown the race for his replacement wide open.

His declaration now offers him a fall-back position in case NASA fails to wrest power from Jubilee.

Wetangula’s move comes a short while after the fifth NASA co-principal, Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto, also declared that he would defend his seat.

According to political pundits, Wetangula and Ruto have been facing a dilemma to choose between the positions offered by NASA, which are pegged on the coalition winning the general election, and the surety offered by them being on the ballot to defend their seats.
