Jubilee's Repeat Nomination Exercise Suspended by High Court

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has gotten a shot in the arm after the high court suspended Jubilee’s repeat nominations in the county that had on Friday been ordered to take place within 96 hours.

The successful appeal by Wa Iria came hours after the petitioner of the case, Jamleck Kamau, declared that he had withdrawn from the governorship race.

Speaking to the press on Saturday Kamau stated that he had decided to withdraw his candidature for the seat and would instead concentrate on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.

"I will also not be on the ballot in August. What matters is that the people of Muranga know that despite voting for me, there was rigging," said Kamau.

He had while filing the petition with the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal cited massive irregularities in the nomination exercise, saying that the process was not free and fair and lacked credibility.

The Kigumo MP claimed that he was rigged out despite garnering over 120,000 voters from the 200,000 votes which were cast during the Jubilee primaries in the county.

He, however, expressed confidence that the decision by the tribunal and the court had vindicated his assertions that the Jubilee process was flawed.

Governor wa Iria is now on a clear path to fly Jubilee's flag in the August 8 general elections.
