Bodies of Kenyan Father Benjamin Nzavi and His 11-year Old Daughter Retrieved from US Lake

The bodies of a Kenyan father and his 11-year-old daughter who drowned at Lake Whitney, Texas, on Saturday have been retrieved.

Diving crews located the bodies of Benjamin Nzavi, 29, and his daughter feet apart near a drop-off on the bottom of the lake where they are believed to have drowned.

According to Hill County Sheriff’s office, the two had gone for a swim at the lake when the unnamed daughter stepped off the shelf and did not resurface.

His father, Nzavi, reportedly dived in to search for her but did not resurface either, and are believed to have both drowned in the process.

Chief Deputy Rick White stated that search efforts had been hampered by bad weather and poor visibility in the area.

White revealed that Nzavi was a ballistics engineer in Milford, Texas and his family had just moved to the area a few weeks ago.

He noted that the deceased was well known to many members of the Sheriff’s office and was a jail minister who went to the same church with them.

“He went to church with members of the sheriff’s office and other members of this recovery team.

“When it’s people you know, it makes it much more difficult,” added White.
